NP - Self Clinching Fasteners - Flush Head Studs
|
Self Clinching Flush Head Studs provide a strong torque resistant captivated male thread in thin panels.
As the name suggests Flush Head Clinch Studs install fully flush on the back of the panel meaning that minimal surface finishing is required after installation. The special castellated Clinch feature provides excellent torque out and push out resistance.
Available in Steel, 300 series Stainless Steel (for use in panels up to 70 HRB), 400 series stainless steel (for use in panels up to 92 HRB) and Aluminium in thread sizes M2 - M8.
Like all self clinching fasteners they are installed using a parallel squeezing action so require access to both sides of the panel.

First punch or drill the correct size hole. DO NOT deburr the hole prior to installation as this will remove material required during the clinching process. It is preferable to install the fastener from the side of the panel with the burring or blow through.
Place the fastener in the hole like in the diagram above making sure the part is seated squarely. Apply a parallel squeezing force until the head is embedded flush in the panel.
When installing Self Clinching fasteners, please pay attention to the minimum hole centerline to edge and parent material hardness limitations.
For special applications or if you are unsure of any aspect about the usage or installation of this fastener, give our sales office a call and we will do our best to offer you a solution or give advice on your application.

400 Series Stainless Steel Studs require a special anvil to achieve a proper installation. This utilises a staking ring to help displace the panel material into the annular groove of the stud. It is recommended that 400 series studs are not installed into panel thicknesses greater than 2.4mm as the effect of the special anvil is reduced.
The anvil should be manufactured from tooling steel and should be hardened to a minimum of 55 Rockwell C to provide a satisfactory anvil life. It is recommended that the A dimension be measured every 5000 installations to ensure the anvil remains within specification. A worn anvil will reduce installation effectiveness and could compromise performance of the part.

The above data is based on average values obtained in a test environment. Variations in hole size, panel material and installation will effect performance. It is recommended that you carry out your own performance tests in the actual application. Contact our sales department who will be happy to supply samples free of charge.
Performance shown for 400 Series Stainless Steel Studs is typical when parts are installed using an anvil with a staking ring as specified
